When kanye started rapping, he got same response (albeit more intelligent and far less gay) from the hip hop heads. "he's a producer! he can't rap!" and it's true, he can't. he can't sing either.
but people love it when he does either of them. and, let's be perfectly honest, the only reason people hate on Kanye is because he's made it big. If Kanye were still a no-name producer on the Roc, people would be big-upping (bigging-up?) him everytime his name showed up in the press.
