Hip-Hop Scofflaws: October edition

ATG on the hip-hop crime rate.

ATG is vastly disappointed when adored artists wind up in baffling positions. For the record ATG doesn't care for Jim Jones.
Stackin' paper like back-taxes

One of ATG's top three all-time favorite Wu-Tang members, Method Man, was busted for tax evasion Monday morning.

The legendary rapper, real name Clifford Smith, owes Uncle Sam upwards of $33,000 in taxes from 2004-2007. Last Spring, the IRS stepped in and took his Lincoln Navigator. According to Meth, the lack of payment was not at the hands of any sort of fallout from his 401k plummets or financial shortcomings, he just didn't pay attention:

"I never opened [the tax department's] letters," he told the New York Daily News in March. "So this is how the tax man came to Meth's house and took his truck. Not because I was broke! I got plenty of money."

ATG loves ignoring FAFSA's student loan reminders as much as next disgruntled entry level drone with a BA, but come on! We're talking about paying taxes, your primary civic duty.

Ever since George Harrison whined about the government's role in his finances, musicians are consistently unhappy surrendering funds to the IRS. It's frankly upsetting on a fundamental, philosophical level. There's lots to complain about in terms of what governments actually wind up doing with tax money, but ultimately, libertarian-leaning musical entrepreneurs should acknowledge that every developed country is inherently a social contract whereupon citizens buy into state support whenever they begin earning a living.

Everyone gets schools, fire trucks, cops, parks, healthcare, you just gotta ante up with the federalis every April.

Free at la...hold up.

Shyne was slated for freedom Tuesday, but increased, post-911 enforcement of this law instead leaves the Belize-born New Yorker staring down deportation. That this comes up now is unacceptable and inhumane, "you paid your debt to society but upon your societal return your society has voted you out of the tribe and we're just now telling you."

Unacceptable, procedural bull at the hands of reactionary, dated immigration reform? Come on!

That's my Louis Vuitton under her underarm

Jim Jones pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor assault charge. Jones kicked and punched a member of Ne-Yo's entourage in front of a Louis Vuitton store on Fifth Avenue in New York. Allegedly.

Unfortunately for Jones, he messed with the wrong weed carrier. Turns out the victim, Jayvon Smith, is related to the "Ty Ty" Jay-Z is always shouting out in songs. The whole incident is unfortunate, redundant, circumstantially effeminate and Jones won't even get any new rap lines from the ordeal. Stirring static over an admittedly stylish Cashmere scarf with post-Gentleman heartthrob's posse? Come on!

Pray IV Reign in stores now.

And now for your weekly stab update:

Last month, Plies took his club jams to Fort Myers, Florida and stabbing ensued among patrons.

City officials have been calling for a ban on all hip-hop events in the ugly aftermath. Councilman Warren Wright, your basic party hack with a values ax, stuck his foot in his mouth and blew any chance at legitimate reform by coming off out of touch and a little racist when he said rap concerts correlate with street violence.

Not only is the Fort Meyers Police Department at a loss for evidence, but an embarrassed Wright had to clear the air during Monday's council meeting, "I don't see any way Hip Hop concerts could be banned from Harborside [Convention Center] unless a unilateral agreement was made to eradicate all concerts from the venue. I don't feel anyone would like to see that happen," he told Hip-Hop DX.

For those keeping score, the September stabbing sweepstakes also included a House of Blues assault following a free Jay-Z show in Chicago. That's four total concert incidents in 2009 following a post-Drake shooting in the same Chicago venue and a post-Fabolous concert shooting in Pennsylvania.

One important thing I like about blogs is the fact that they trigger a thought in my brain. As soon as that happens, I feel as I have to provide feedback expecting it will be valuable to some people. Since there are numerous blogs with distinct points of view, they challenge your thinking. It's at these occasions when you have good insignt the rest might not have had, together with the blogger him/herself. I find myself coming back to your internet site because you have plenty of wonderful insights and also you happen to be at this a very long time, that is very inspiring and tells me you know your stuff. Way to focus and straight to your point, i love it. Keep up the work people. Dont let anyone stop us bloggers.

Recovery for your body is prominent between your routines! Our muscles need time to compensate from the workout they have just endured. What most people don’t know is that our muscle growth takes place during sleep, not during workout. After rest, muscles are bolde than they were previously, and this allows for more growth through workout.

I’d have to clinch the deal with you on this. Which is not something I usually do! I enjoy reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
