We've been working on this one for a minute, and it's high time we let the word out. A Thousand Grams has selected Bonnaroo, the sprawling, four-day musical mayhem in the middle-of-nowhere Tennessee, as the second major festival of its inaugural year...
The day after tomorrow we'll be camped out in Manchester for the weekend, delivering exclusive coverage and content, holding it down for hip-hop, breathing in the good vibes* and, most likely, hollerin' @ the ladies from Lucky magazine. We brought you SXSW earlier this year, and this should be equally, if not more, epic.
Bonnaroo, a large scale music and arts festival that began in 2002 and takes its name from a Dr. John album, has a bit of a reputation for being a playground for hippies, hipsters and jam bands; leading most hip-hop publications to largely ignore the festivities. We think that's a tragedy.
The truth is Bonnaroo is arguably the largest, least pretentious, most diverse and music-friendly festival around. We've wanted to go ever since Radiohead played for four hours straight in 2006, but in recent years the festival has made a habit of showcasing consistently slept on MCs like Lyrics Born, Blackalicious and Saul Williams; while nodding at majors like Talib, The Roots and Kanye West. Here are a few artists we'll be checkin' for this year:
Snoop Dogg
Erykah Badu
Public Enemy
Beastie Boys
Santigold
Girl Talk
Raphael Saadiq
People Under the Stairs
Murs
The Knux
Janelle Monae
Stay tuned to this blog and the Events section which has been renamed in honor of the 'Roo. It's gonna be a dope time and, as always, we'll keep you posted.
* We hear good vibes are pretty loosely regulated at these sorts of things. And why wouldn't they be?
